The Conservation Easement Handbook

Newly revised and expanded, "The Conservation Easement Handbook," is a resource for communities developing a conservation easement program to meet local acquisition needs. It offers practical how-to tips and checklists for land trust staff and board members, detailed drafting guidelines for attorneys, and many sample documents on a companion CD. The handbook $49.95 and is available on the Land Trust Alliance Web site, www.tpl.org/tier3_cd.cfm?content_item_id=19577&folder_id=175.

The Source Protection Handbook: Using Land Conservation to Protect Local Drinking Water Supplies

The handbook provides resources to help a community both make the case for land conservation as a critical strategy for protecting America's drinking water sources and recharge lands. It is a guide to actually conserving those lands. The handbook can be downloaded at www.tpl.org/tier3_cd.cfm?content_item_id=18298&folder_id=175.

Making the Connection: Smart Growth and Water Resource Protection

This new online, distance learning training module has recently been added to EPA's Watershed Academy Web site at www.epa.gov/watertrain/smartgrowth. The module also includes a “tools” section with links to online resources found at www.epa.gov/watertrain/smartgrowth/resources/index.htm.

Using Trees to Protect and Restore Urban Watersheds

The Center for Watershed Protection recently produced the first in a three-part manual series about using trees to protect and restore urban watersheds. Part 1, the Urban Watershed Forestry Manual, is available for free download from the center's website at www.cwp.org/forestry/index.htm.

Unified Facilities Criteria: Low Impact Development Manual

The Department of Defense has just published, under its "United Facilities Criteria," a new document titled "Low Impact Development Manual."
