AWARE Colorado
Addressing Water And Natural Resource Education

AWARE Colorado provides information to community leaders statewide about the impacts of land use on water quality, and suggests strategies to protect our rivers, lakes and streams.

AWARE Colorado visits communities to inform local officials and others about ways to protect local water quality through community planning.  Many of the strategies are found in the “Water Protection Toolkit for Local Officials.”

AWARE Colorado also recently began a pilot research program that will target communities in the South Platte River basin.  Focus groups and interviews will be conducted to better understand the barriers and benefits of specific water-protective strategies, with an emphasis on parking lot design and construction.  The findings will help communities identify ways to overcome the barriers and gain from the benefits.

AWARE Colorado is an initiative of the League of Women Voters of Colorado Education Fund. It is funded by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

AWARE Colorado is a charter member of the National NEMO Network, a national education program for land use decision makers that addresses the relationship between land use and natural resource protection.
